Fundraising and Grants
Project: Raise funds for capital projects and operating expenses for the Utah National Parks Council, then largest Boy Scout council in America.
Goal: Bring in enough money to sustain and support Scouting programs and properties. Secure recurring gifts where possible.
My Role: Create fundraising content and materials, secure grants, follow up with donors, assist in planning and executing fundraising events, and work with other management team members to design and carry out campaigns.
Results: Received over $300,000 annually in operations grants and several million dollars worth of capital and in-kind gifts. Created materials for our community giving campaign, which raised over $3 million annually for operating expenses.

Marketing Management
Project: Manage marketing team for Ogden-Weber Technical College, including content, design, print, and web projects.
Goal: Tell the OTECH story in a compelling, innovative, and actionable way to increase enrollment and support the college’s mission.
My Role: Manage marketing strategy and projects. Work with all internal departments to identify marketing needs and brainstorm solutions. Handle content writing and editing, staying true to style guide and college policies. Follow up with graphic designer, web developer, photographer, marketing specialists, etc. throughout the process. Finally, work with team to publish and distribute.
Results: Created on-brand marketing pieces that helped the college generate a record number of new leads and enrollments, retain students, and raise funds.







Content Writing and Design
Project: Freelance writing and graphic design.
Goal: Create quality content to drive traffic and meet company needs.
My Role: Research, write, and edit content pieces based on interviews and publisher’s criteria. Create design pieces based on assignment and need.
Results: Regularly published in local magazines and websites, including Utah Stories and the Utah Explorer’s Guide. Completed design projects for small local businesses and individuals.
Diversity and Inclusion
Project: Bring Scouting programs to underserved populations.
Goal: Increase number of participants in Scouting programs from previously underserved populations, including minorities, refugees, and low-income families.
My Role: Work with all three Utah Boy Scout councils to secure grant funding for multicultural outreach. Assist volunteers and create recruitment and training materials for adult leaders. Report on grant use and success each year.
Results: Received $120,000 per year in grant money for outreach initiatives. Saw 10% growth in registration among underserved populations. Published bilingual materials and held bilingual training for volunteers in these units.

PR and Crisis Management
Project: Address issues with adult leader conduct, national organization bankruptcy, and changes in the Church relationship with Scouting.
Goal: Keep the public informed, calm, and confident so Scouting programs and fundraising efforts remain effective.
My Role: Write press releases and official statements, interview stakeholders, and present a unified front for Scouting in the area. Reassure the public and council constituents of our mission and value to the community.
Results: Despite several unusually rocky years in the perception of Scouting, our communication efforts kept most participants confident in our programs. We held successful fundraising campaigns, achieved unit growth, and faced minimal scandal despite factors beyond our control.

Web Content and SEO
Project: Voice of Scouting blog and UNPC web presence.
Goal: Create blog content and use SEO to consistently reach the front page of Google so positive messages about Scouting’s impact could outweigh negative press.
My Role: Write and edit content, oversee blog team, plan editorial calendar, manage SEO, track metrics, and use market research to shape strategic plan and initiatives.
Results: Together, built a blog readership of 250,000 and regularly ranked in the top five results in Google searches related to Scouting and similar topics. Won a $10,000/month grant for Google ads. Because of our positive web presence, we were able to continue serving youth and maintain financial sustainability through years of particular turmoil in Scouting.
